The Sutton St Edmunds trio comprising of G Heath, A Macfarlane & D Warriner were champions at this year’s charity competition, taking the Chloe Shield title for 2024. This followed an unbeaten run throughout the day, only dropping 1 point with one game finishing in a draw.

The Annual Charity competition, hosted by Doddington SMBC, attracted over 50 bowlers from clubs within Cambridgeshire, with competitors also travelling from over the border from Lincolnshire and Hertfordshire. The Shield is played each year in memory of Chloe & Pauline Peters and this year the presentation was made by the Peters family of Joe & Terry (as pictured).

This year’s chosen charity was MacMillan Cancer Support who benefited from the proceeds of the event which raised £505 on the day. The generosity of the supporters through the bowls itself, the raffles and other donations made this another record year.

The Chairman thanked everyone for attending and for the continued support of everyone involved. Each year the competition attracts new entries but also many bowlers who return each year and this year was no exception. The event continues to thrive and be a popular fixture in the Short Mat Bowls calendar. Appreciation was shown to the individuals who helped in preparation and on the day itself.

The results were…

Winners: G Heath, A Macfarlane & D Warriner (9pts, +17sd)
